KEMSA Chairman Irungu Nyakera Caught in Illegal Appointments Scandal
A new bombshell has dropped at KEMSA implicating none other than the board’s own Chairman Irungu Nyakera in illegal appointments.
A source has come forward with explosive allegations that Nyakera unilaterally hired people into high-paying positions without any public advertisements or due process as required by law and KEMSA’s own policies.

The two persons in question have been directly named as effectively serving as Nyakera’s personal assistants within KEMSA and drawing sizeable salaries from the cash-strapped authority’s coffers through this dubious arrangement.
“KEMSA made no advertisements for the said positions,” the source revealed.
“Of course they were illegally appointed.”
This represents a stunning abuse of power and another damning indictment on Nyakera’s leadership at an institution already reeling from scandals over manipulated tender awards, suspected fraudulent dealings and opaque financial management.
Nyakera is also at the center of a raging firestorm after it emerged that companies associated with his political networks from Murang’a County were improperly awarded lucrative KEMSA tenders worth hundreds of millions of shillings.
With the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission already investigating these dealings this new illegal appointments expose could very well be the tipping point for Nyakera’s reign.
Authoritative sources within KEMSA had already raised concerns about the authority operating without an approved list of pre-qualified suppliers, in violation of procurement laws, during the tenure of Acting CEO Dr. Andrew Mulwa.
The two appear to be working in cahoots, allegedly making dodgy deals and pushing through questionable procurement decisions that allowed graft to fester within KEMSA’s corridors.
As stakeholders demand accountability, all eyes are now on President William Ruto and whether he will finally take decisive action to rein in the monumental plunder happening right under his administration’s nose.
With KEMSA being Kenya’s lifeline for essential medical supplies, its being turned into a vampire squid enriching connected elites is a matter of life and death for millions of Kenyans failed by a healthcare system in crisis.
