Take a deep breath, ease your emotions for your fair reaction upon reading this article. Time to talk facts, constitution and rule of law that governs politics in Kenya and worldwide.
The recent revelations and status quo has never been experienced before in this continent-Africa let alone Kenya as a country. This kind of self-driven Gen-Z wild, fearless protest has never been published in political science class. True to the fact that
Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.
G. Michael Hopf words.
The hard economy times in Kenya has created strong men and women. Tribeless generation who are raising issues through avenues that African Dictatorial governments understands best.
This transition came coincidentally at a time when Official opposition leader Raila Odinga who is of old age and who has been fighting in opposition since time immemorial without luck of grabbing the top seat which perhaps might have never even been his true goal as he continues to join government of the day in one way or the other. The old man thrives in turmoil.
Former PM Raila Odinga and his opposition brigade have been in disbelief that the first strike of #OccupyParliament revolution was a success without his public mobilization. He was silent. But why?
Here is my answer in a political language: PERSONAL AMBITIONS – Africa Union Commission Chairmanship interest. This candidacy requires Odinga to quit from active politics, he cant be seen creating turmoil back at home for political motives as he strives to unite all African countries should he be voted in.
Why Odinga Allowed his spanner boys to join Ruto’s Cabinet.
This was to neutralize the current turmoil of protests and portray Ruto’s government as inclusive government with everyone from all the political divide. Odinga believe turmoil back at home would jeopardize his AU campaign since charity begins at home, he cant assure other African nation to bring about peace when back at home its war and bloodshed.
Lawfully Odinga needs the backing of the Kenyan government through the Head of State who in return is the one who is to campaign for him to other Head of State since voting for his position is done by Heads of state. He cannot dare oppose the Government of the day unless he withdraws his interest from the contest and resets back to his opposition status and which is highly unlikely.
The old man is clearly done with being the sacrificial lamp every time.
However, though Odinga has failed to capture the presidency several times, he has been the single-most influential and transformative Kenyan politician of the past four decades.
He was at the forefront of the struggle for the “Second Liberation” from Kanu dictatorship. This democratic activism earned him several stints in detention. His support for Mwai Kibaki in 2002 ensured the triumph of the opposition. He was a key architect of, and campaigner for, the 2010 Constitution. He has championed devolution and gender equality.
As a self-declared social democrat, he advocates social protection measures to cushion the poor. He criticises the “Big Man” megalomania and self-aggrandisement that underpin Africa’s failed or failing development project. This political outlook has made him a friend to many opposition politicians across Africa.
